Oak Flooring Choices

White Oak Floor Choices- A Great Style for Flooring

When it comes to working on a project involving installing hardwood floors, many people don't realize how many choices they have for the types of wood that they can choose from. Hardwood floors are beautiful, durable, and much more valuable to a home than any type of carpet you could install.

Depending on the look that you're going for, you have a variety of choices of what to pick from. For example, if you want a vintage style or a more rustic look, any flooring with a more raw or timber-like finish would be ideal for your situation. However, if you are looking for something a little more warm and inviting, consider beech, maple, or even a white oak floor.

The most common type of flooring used is red Oak. While it is durable, elegant, and cost-effective, it is so common that your house certainly won't stand out if you use it for your floors. Take the time to check out your other options and see if you can find something that suits your style without matching 10 other houses on the block.

For example, having a white oak floor will afford you the same elegance and cost effectiveness as red oak, but it will be less typical, giving you a unique home.If you are using actual hardwood to put in flooring, you will have three grades of what to choose from. Clear lumber is lumber that is free of defects, while select lumber has a few slight variations in color and minor imperfections to it. These are probably the two most common types of lumber used for flooring.

If you are looking for something unique and funky, you can use the third grade of flooring, known as common lumber, which has many color variations and is sure to have a variety of imperfections. You will be able to choose from having solid wood floors or engineered wood floors. Each one comes with their own benefits and disadvantages, including the fact that solid wood expands and contracts a lot more and is more susceptible to moisture problems.

When you choose white oak, you can choose to have it in a plain style, a strip style or parquet. Planks and strips are longer cuts of wood with planks being wider than strips, while parquet is a pattern created in geometric designs using smaller pieces of wood.

If you prefer, you can even find white oak floor styles available in laminate and composite materials for a more affordable flooring option.
