Floor Wax Guide

Hardwood Floor Wax- Why You Need It

There is a great debate over whether hardwood floor wax is actually necessary or not. Some people will tell you that it is an amenity that you can enjoy to keep your floors looking like new,  while others will tell you that your floor will not survive or last for as long as the show without wax.

Furthermore, there are even people that say that you should never use wax on hardwood floors, which makes the entire topic very confusing.

Hardwood wax is designed to protect your floor from dirt and dust, which ultimately makes it a beneficial product for most people. However, it can also make your floor softer and slippery or, which can be dangerous if you have small children in the house or tend to walk around with socks on.

If you choose to sweep your hardwood floors, you need to make sure that you're vacuuming them with a bare floor attachment so that the beater bar that is found onto a vacuum doesn't damage the wood. After that, if your floor has a matte finish and has been protected by oil or wax before, you can use floor wax to revamp the protection from damages.

Don't do this too often, because it will cause wax buildup and be ineffective. Only when you notice the floor getting dull, should you re-wax it to keep it protected and safe.

If you have used polyurethane or another similar product to seal your hardwood floors, you really don't need to use hardwood flooring wax. It can be applied as an extra protective coating, but isn't necessary since you have already put a sealant over the wood to keep it safe from moisture, dirt, and build up.

One of the best ways to avoid having to wax your floor on a regular basis is to use area rugs and runners in high-traffic areas so that the floor is not exposed as much wear and tear. That will keep the wax plentiful and protective for much longer than if you didn't use these tools in the first place.

Whether or not you use hardwood floor wax is going to be up to you in the long run. As long as you take the time to weigh the pros and cons and make sure that you are using it correctly, it can be very beneficial to your wood floors.

Just make sure that you don't use it too often or use it when it is not needed, because then you will risk ruining your floors.
