Refinish Wood Floors- Easy Tips to Make them New Again
If you want to refinish wood floors, you certainly have a task ahead of you. However, as long as you take the time to learn the best ways
to go about it, you shouldn’t have any trouble completing the task. If you’re serious about getting professional results, you can hire
professionals to do the work for you.
However, if you think that you have what it takes to refinish a wood floor by yourself, you can give it a shot provided that you get the
right equipment and follow a few simple steps.
If you want to refinish the floors on your own, you’ll need to rent a sanding machine from a hardware store or tool rental shop. You
could, of course, approach the project by hand-sanding it all, but this will be very time consuming and take a LOT of effort.
If you don’t have weeks to spend on your flooring, a sanding machine is the way to go. Make sure that you take a minute to test out
the sanding machine and get the feel for it so that you don’t overdo it. Always start small, because you can go back and sand more but you can never
put the floor back if you sand it down too much.
It’s best to get a drum sander that you can move back and forth along the grain of the wood rather than using a disk sander, which
will go in circles as it sands. The drum sander will give your floors a better appearance and help you to avoid the risk of creating circles in your finished
product that do not come out.
Try to keep the pressure even as you’re sanding so that you don’t have uneven sanding results when you are all finished with
your project. It’s not the most complicated thing in the world to do, but it does take a little patience and skill to ensure that you don’t mess
it up.
After you’re done sanding the first pass, you need to sweep up the dust and dirt and make sure that you are pleased with the results.
If you aren’t, or if it needs another pass, you can then repeat the process until you achieve the results that you want.
Once you are finished, make sure that you sweep the floor well and wash it down so that there is no dust that will get stuck into the stain
when you refinish wood floors. With these tips in mind, you should have a fairly easy time refinishing your wood floor.
